Welcome to Nabanga Pikinini
Nabanga is the name in Vanuatu for the banyan tree,
a tree which is the shelter for the lisepsep,
a tree which guards the sacred places,
from the nasara of Vao,
to the nakamal of Tanna,
a tree which is witness to the words of the ancestors.

Oral traditions
From 2004 until 2008 the Vanuatu Cultural Centre ran The Oral Arts Project. One of the principal objectives of the project was to preserve and popularize the oral traditions (or custom stories) of Vanuatu by making them more widely available as books. Nabanga Pikinini continues this vision. (Ralph Regenvanu) Nabanga Pikinini is a series of books of Vanuatu custom stories adapted for children. |
